In our clinic, we recommend two new products which are
Vectra 3D and Comfortis.
Vectra 3D is a flea and tick topical product that kills as well as
repels and also sterilizes the adult fleas. Comfortis is a flea-only
product that is given by mouth. It kills and also sterilizes the adult fleas.
Revolution for your cat kills fleas and prevents hookworms, roundworms,
heartworms and ear mites.
Just remember that fleas have a life cycle of 6-8 weeks.
It takes this amount of time to get the fleas completely under control.

Heartworms are transmitted through mosquitoes. All they
have to do is take a blood meal from a heartworm-positive dog and then go to
your dog and take a blood meal. This all can be prevented through heartworm
medication.
We carry two different kinds of heartworm prevention -
Sentinel and Interceptor. They both protect against heartworms,
hookworms, roundworms and whipworms. The only difference is Sentinel has
a flea sterilizer in it. It will make the adult flea sterile so when the flea
lays eggs, they will not be able to hatch. It does not kill the flea, it only
keeps it from reproducing.
Those are called tapeworms. Your dog gets them from the
fleas that carry tapeworms. All the dog has to do is eat one flea that carries
tapeworms and you will begin seeing tapeworms in your pet's stool. Tapeworms are
treatable, but to prevent them, you must keep your animals on flea prevention.
We recommend starting vaccines at 6 weeks of age. To
complete the vaccines, they must also be administered at 9, 12 and 15 weeks.
Every 6 months your puppy should receive booster shots. Kittens should receive
booster shots every 12 months.
We recommend to spay or neuter your animal at an early
age, preferably before your pet reaches sexual maturity (first heat cycle). If
done at or before this age, the recovery time for your pet is much easier. The
recommended age is as early as 3 months, but before 6 months.
Can I spay or neuter my cat
or dog while they are in heat?
Yes, we are
able to spay or neuter your pet while they are in heat. You do not want to wait
because there is a chance that they may become pregnant even though you are
taking every precaution.
